In Romanization and articulation Kham or Khamer refers to the same people of Khmer-Mon language based group that have made mainland SE Asia home over 4500 year ago. Khmer had become a prominent culture, art, civilization, and language that influenced the migratory group of Tai Kadai origin living in present Lao, Siam and Annam.
In the past over 700 years, Khmer inhabitants suffer from piracy, annihilation, genocide, subjugation, annexation and suppression. People continue to presently living and speaking Khmer across eastern, northeast of Thailand, southern Laos and Mekong Delta known as South Viet Nam. Toward the end of 19th throughout the 20th century either Siam or Annam were still continually to annex much of the remaining land of present Cambodia.
In 1893 Colonial French of Cambodia defeated Siam that had earlier annexed and divided Khmer ruling families in upland Khmer region. The cause of war was French demanded Siam to vacate Khmer provinces. Subsequently as a result in 1904-1907, French-Siam Border Commission had drawn a map of present state of Cambodia that was supposed to stop Siam encroachment.
From the West, more than 16 provinces known as Upland Khmer plus Trat-Surin-Buriram-Sri Sakesh had been annexed to Siam after French -Siam war in 1893. Then after Ineternational Court of Justice 1962 ruling, Thailand insists on moving its armed men to occupy beyond the UN recognized 1904-1907 demarcating borderlines. Also Siam took opportunity during Cambodia internal conflict wars in the 70’s,80’s to remove border markers and resettle land grabbers on Khmerland.
From the East, French ceded more than 20 provinces mainly in formerly French Protectorate Administrative area south of the 17 parallel known as Lowland Khmer to Viet Nam in June 1949.
Siam and Annam employed genocidal wars to divide and conquer Khmer land.
Recently, in 1976, Viet Nam invaded and annexed Koh Tral. To further its expansionist plan,Viet Nam conspired and incited hatred wars that caused nearly 3 millions of Khmer life. Not satisfying in 1978, Viet’s Hanoi preemptively invaded and subjugated Khmer people until 1991 when UNTAC forced Hanoi to fully withdraw its elements from Cambodia. In 2004 report by a respected diplomat states there are 4 million illegal Viet immigrant lives across Cambodia.
In July 2008, Preah Vihear one of the major Khmer architecturals was finally enlisted with UN world heritage site. Instead of helping in the ASEAN spirit, Thailand has sabotaged and instigated fights.
