“The former King is healthy,” he told Xinhua. “Almost every day, he meets and donates royal gifts to his poor subjects at the Royal Palace.”

Thomico said he did not know how long the Sihanouks would stay in Beijing.

The former king and queen returned home on Oct. 27, 2011, to celebrate the seventh anniversary of king Norodom Sihamoni’s coronation and observe Sihanouk’s 90th birthday. The Cambodian government organized nationwide celebrations on Oct. 30 and 31 to honor former king’s birthday and the 20th anniversary of his return home from exile.

Under the constitutional law, when the king is absent, Cambodian President of the Senate Chea Sim will assume the title of the acting Head of State.
