Spokesman for opposition movement denies dissolution

PHNOM PENH (Cambodia Herald) – The new opposition Democratic Movement for National Rescue created by the Sam Rainsy Party and Human Rights Party is not being dissolved, spokesman Pol Horm said Monday.

He said described as fake two letters by Sam Rainsy and Human Rights Party leader Kem Sokha that were posted on Facebook over the weekend.

The leaders of the two parties, which plan to merge, are said to be currently visiting the United States.

\”Some people may be concerned about our merger so they did that to confuse public opinion,\” Pol Horm said. \”But we don’t care about such issues. We will register the new party soon.\”

In the two letters, the two leaders said the movement was being dissolved while Sam Rainsy expressed appreciation for the leadership of Prime Minister Hun Sen.

Sam Rainsy, believed to be living in France, also said he would retire from politics as he could not run in next year\’s elections due to his criminal conviction.
