The Royal Government of Cambodia will send a Secretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MFA-IC) to attend the upcoming elections for five non-permanent seats on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the 2013-2014 mandate, a spokesperson said.

H.E. Ouch Borith will attend the elections on Oct. 18, 2012 at the UN headquarters in New York city, H.E. Koy Kuong, MFA-IC’s spokesman told reporters.

To win the seat, each candidate has to get at least two-thirds of the votes from the 193 UN’s member states, he said.

Cambodia will compete with the Republic of Korea and Bhutan for the Asia-Pacific group.

Cambodia has become a member of the UN since December 1955.
