Cambodia bans entertainment to mourn Sihanouk…NO sex for all government officials?

PHNOM PENH, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) — Cambodia issued a directive on Monday to prohibit all pleasant entertainment in order to mourn for the death of King-Father Norodom Sihanouk.

According to the directive signed by Prime Minister Hun Sen, the official mourning period will last for a week from Oct. 17 to 23.

“During the mourning period, all radio and TV stations as well as entertainment places must suspend joyful performances and concerts,” it said. “Flags must be flying at half-mast during week-long period of mourning.”

The directive also advised people to pin a small, black piece of cloth to their shirts as the sign of mourning.

It added that the body of the King-Father will be exhibited at the Royal Palace for at least 3 months before being cremated. “During the 3-month display, civil servants, civilians and foreign friends can pay their last respect to the King-Father,” it said.

Sihanouk died early Monday morning in Beijing, China, at the age of 90, said a government statement.

Born on Oct. 31, 1922, Sihanouk reigned Cambodia from 1941 to 1955 and again from 1993 until his voluntary abdication on Oct. 7, 2004 in favor of his son, the current King Norodom Sihamoni.

He suffered from various forms of cancer, diabetes and hypertension and had been treated in Beijing for years before his death.

Sihanouk wrote in a royal letter in January 2012 that he requested his body to be cremated and his ashes to be put in an urn, preferably made of gold, and placed in a stupa at the Royal Palace.
