Hun Sen urges government officials to answer lawmakers’ questions

7-01-2013 PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) – Prime Minister Hun Sen urged government officials Friday to answer lawmakers’ questions.

Information Minister Khieu Kanharith quoted Hun Sen as saying that more debate should be encouraged at the National Assembly.

At the same time, Hun Sen said government officials should be responsive to questions by members of parliament.

In late December, Sam Rainsy Party lawmaker Son Chhay urged National Assembly Chairman Heng Samrin to summon Interior Minister Sar Kheng to discuss the issue of passports and citizenship cards.

He also called for Energy Minister Suy Sem to be summoned to discuss mining exploration licenses.

Son Chhay said the opposition party had noticed irregularities with passports, citizenship cards and licenses related to mining.

Following an earlier request from Son Chhay, Hun Sen addressed the National Assembly for five hours in August on border issues with Vietnam.

The address, broadcast live on television, did not allow any questions from lawmakers.
