Yellow Shirt pressure seen as internal Thai issue

8-01-2013 PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) – Thai opposition pressure against the government of Yingluck Shinawatra attending an International Court of Justice hearing in The Hague April is an internal issue for Thailand, a government spokesman said.

Tith Sothea, a member of the Press and Quick Reaction Unit of the Office of the Council of Ministers, said Monday that such ‘Yellow Shirt’ pressure was not unexpected.

Cambodia filed a complaint to the court in May 2011 following Thailand’s occupation of a zone around Preah Vihear Temple in 2008.

The ICJ has invited Cambodia and Thailand to give evidence at hearings scheduled for April 15 to 19.

Under an ICJ ruling, Cambodia and Thailand have replaced troops with police in a Provisional Demilitarized Zone around the Preah Vihear Temple.
