Thai PM to dissolve House by late April due to superstition: opposition

BANGKOK, March 29 (Xinhua) — Prompong Nopparit, spokesman of the opposition Puea Thai Party, unveiled on Tuesday that Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva would disband the government on April 27 because of superstition.

Prompong cited a source from the ruling Democrat Party as saying the prime minister would like to dissolve the House one week earlier than the previous plan as he believed that the auspicious timing would make Democrat become the ruling party again.

The Puea Thai spokesman also added that the earlier announcement of general election would better benefit Democrat when it runs the election campaign.

The premier mentioned before that he planned to call on House dissolution by the first week of May so that the country could have a fresh election by early July. Coming into power in December 2008, the Abhisit government should originally finish its term at the end of this year but it plans to call an earlier election by midyear.
